Untouched and magical nature is usually far from the populated areas, but Medjurjec canyon is an exception. Hidden from the people on the slopes of Rumija mountain, it is only 15 km from the coastal city of Bar and beautiful Montenegro seaside. Recently discovered it is still not so popular which makes it even more appealing. Moreover, it is the only canyon on the south of Montenegro which does not dries out even through the driest summers. Pure mountain water, waterfalls, huge vertical drops, deep natural pools, and stunning beauty of the landscape are making this canyon one of the most extraordinary places in Montenegro.
On September 11, 2017, together with three fantastic British guys, we explored this shiny pearl of mother Nature.
As soon as we entered the canyon we faced 30m deep abseil, at the same time the highest in this canyon! The point after which there’s no coming back, but also where all the fun starts! Abseil by abseil we progressed through the canyon. Amazed by the sceneries we enjoyed every single minute of the descent. In total there are 10 abseils ranging from 3 to 30 meters in height. Few of them must be descended with the safety rope while the rest gave us fantastic opportunity to enjoy jumping into small pools formed by the river. No doubt these were the most interesting moments of the excursion for all of us!
In total, we stayed 4 hours in the canyon. Through entire adventure we felt nothing but safe, thanks to our experienced guide Marko.
Instead of words we’ll let our photos to share at least a glimpse of the joy and adrenaline of that day!
